As soon as the Grimsvotn 2011 volcanic eruption started I flew there with pilot Reynir Petursson. We landed on Vatnajokull, around 2 kilometres from the eruption. We noticed lots of lightnings all around us but mostly around the eruption. The interesting thing was that most of the lightnings were coming up from the glacier and shooting upwards.
These truly are the most amazing photograps I have ever seen. They capture the beauty and the frightfulness of the volcano at the same time. Superb photography!
